Collection of miscellaneous church items, 1701-1836, in French. Included is an account book, Jan. 1831-Jan. 1836 of Francis Cicot, Acting Trustee, with accounts of Fr. Gabriel Richard, the church, Rev. Patrick O. Kelly, Rev. Francis Badin, Peter Desnoyes, Acting Trustee, 1833-1836, and lists of funeral masses. Miscellaneous loose items include copied lists of baptisms, marriages, funeral masses, officers of the church, 1755-1832, lists of Catholic Missionaries from the Detroit Area, 1744 and 1785; and an 1832 epitaph for V. Dufort (d. 1831). The miscellaneous, loose items are extremely brittle and reputedly in the handwriting of Fr. Richard.

The original building of St. Ann(e)'s was the first church built in Detroit. The church of French Catholics, its foundation were laid in 1702 on the feast day of St. Ann. The first church was destroyed, rebuilt in 1723, and burned in the Detroit fire of 1805. Another new church was built between 1817 and 1819. Richard became pastor in 1798 and served until his death during the cholera epidemic in 1832, which is documented in the huge list of funerals for 1832 in this volume. For further informat...
